Wow! Last updated in 2006? Really? Well, this was only the backup to the first blog that was ever on my own hosting, for times when the hosting was down. That just doesn't happen any more, and hasn't since the early days. Plus I don't post at the blog to which this is a backup, and it is now defunct because pMachine met a sufficiently new version of PHP (or something in the environment) to cause it to fail.
I can also report that most, if not all, of what I reported in the last update is, no surprise, outdated. That's the real point of posting, to say as much.

An Update
I haven't had need to use this place as a backup in forever, obviously. Seems like it's at least time to update enough to point out my new blog home of nearly two years for those who stumble in and might like to check it out.
Go to Accidental Verbosity for regular blogging. See the pictures of Sadie, and soon her sister, my daughters with the former Accidental Jedi.
Consider this the emergency backup/status site for that instead of for my former blog.
I also blog at Carnival of the Capitalists, and you should check out the new project affiliated with CotC, called Jotzel. It's the best business stories and blog posts as selected by the readers.
I also blog on the more technical side, recently with great paucity, at XTremeBlog.

Network Issues
Hosting Matters is currently experiencing network problems of an unexplained, inconsistent nature. These are causing some outages and slowdowns.
Server Status Here
Network Status Forums Here (Updated as updates are available.)
My regular blog is either completely unavailable, or loads so slowly it might as well be. Along with it, my e-mail is down. Or was; looks like maybe it just came back...

Not My Preferred Way to Go Down
Argh! Still not back up and running yet. I might have to give up and do some work. Anyway, here is my next post I would have made if I could have made posts. Or chucked wood. Or something.
Where's Courtney?
I had forgotten about this Courtney poll I did a while back, but someone linked to is and it's had more activity.
The winning fate is now that Michael Moore got insanely hungy in her presence. Definitely an oral encounter of the wrong kind. In a close second, formerly first, is the theory that Frank J. is secretly holding her as a love slave,
Meanwhile, I have actually delinked her pending her resurrection as a blogger. It's been that long.

Silly web Host
They need to make up their minds! Right after I posted the below, I got onto my blog. Now I can't get into it to post. So here is what I was about to post, via Deb:
Also, Outside The Beltway appears to be down now.

What Irrational Number Are You?
You are √2 You are in good company, many other square roots are also irrational numbers. Just by being a square root you have been branded a radical. You are considered very attractive, especially by Europeans (at least on paper.) You fear that a relationship with another √2 may somehow end up complex and ultimately imaginary. In reality, only another √2 will make you whole. Your lucky number is approximately 1.41421356

Argh!
It seems that elhide.com, and thus my blog, are down in what is not a wider spread Hosting Matters problem. A ping resolves the name to the IP address before timing out, but neither the name nor the IP will come up in the browser. E-mail errors out as well. The problem started sometime after 2:30 PM. There was no notice, if it was a planned outage.
If it goes on any length of time, I will do more posting here later. I discovered the problem after arriving back in the office from Woburn with computer parts. I was going to post the following:
The art you see here by "Mystic" was drawn by my niece, who is 14. I guess others on this page are friends of hers.

Emergency Backup Blog Created
This is the emergency backup for Jay Solo's Verbosity, to be used at times when my blog is down due to host attacks or other problems. I expect I will try to replicate posts to the main blog after each outage is over, or else I will point here.
Laughing Wolf is blogrolling people's backup sites at his backup, InstaWolf. I expect I will do the same, as well as linking a selection of regular blog locations.
Since these emergency sites are primarily a reaction to problems being experienced by Hosting Matters, it is worth being aware of their remote support forum where informative status updates are posted religiously during outages. They also have a remote news page for announcements during outages.
